You can see there are many options. Boundaries with boudoir photography are SO crucial. I always encourage my clients to at least select “anonymous only where I cannot be identified”.
Anonymity in portfolio sharing is a revolutionary approach that addresses concerns over appearing on Google or on Facebook/Instagram, etc!
In this post – I am going to explain what Anonymous posting is, what it means for you, and why to consider it!
Anonymous photos are shots that people cannot go Oh that is for sure Rachel. They cannot identify YOU. It could be you, it could be the neighbor down the street.
These photos do not show your face, or any specific indicators to tie it to you. Think any scars or body marks, tattoos, even unique outfits. Anonymous literally means it can be anyone.
Maybe there’s a shot that you cannot see your face, but can see your jewelry or tattoos. I will leave those in for YOUR photos. But I will edit all of that out for any social, blog, marketing.
It also means that it may just be a shot of your body. Or maybe it is such heavy shadows that it is implied your face is there but cannot see any features whatsoever.
It means you can feel confident that if your boss is also googling Boudoir Photography, or Indiana Boudoir or boudoir photography near me, they won’t be able to say Oh that shot is totally Rachel.
It means if your kids are doom scrolling Instagram, they won’t see a shot and say is that my mom? Though – I have marked my Instagram as 18 and over content so if they are younger, I’d hope they’d not find my profile anyway!
The big reason, being able to share my work helps to encourage others to embark on the boudoir photography journey. It is such an empowering experiencing. I truly hope everyone will do this type of experience! So being have to see other work helps people to take the leap!
As well, being anonymous can also help you explore new spicy and creative avenues without the pressure of your established identity. This freedom enables you to experiment with different styles, and ideas that you might not have considered otherwise.
I had one client use my cuffs. When she saw them she said “Oh my husband will be SO SHOCKED! He’s never expect this!” Yea, girl! Let’s do this!!
I’ve had others see the photos and say “I have had a love-hate relationship with my body. I hope this experience helps me to love my body a little bit more.” Allowing your boudoir photography photos to be shared helps others to have the courage to do one of these sessions for themselves.
Pay it forward!!
While the benefits are clear, successfully sharing your portfolio anonymously requires some strategic planning. Here are some best practices:
Instead of your real name, I almost always use a pseudonym. Some are OK with using their real names and in fact tag me in the photos. I will totally do it if you’re comfortable. But if you prefer anonymous, I’ll always use a pseudonym if using a name in the caption or post.
What does that mean? If your name is Rachel, I may refer to you as Miss A. Or I may just make up a name and call you Stephanie. I’d never use your real name.
With anonymous, I’ll remove any and all jewelry, tattoos, distinct scars or body marks. I may even Photoshop a different outfit on you or lengthen your hair. This extra attention to detail helps to enhance your anonymity so no one can say that photo is absolutely Rachel.
Embracing anonymity in portfolio sharing offers many of benefits, from safeguarding your privacy to paying it forward to others considering a boudoir photoshoot. It also opens up a world of new opportunities, allowing you to experiment freely and try some new things. Consider selecting anonymous for your next boudoir shoot!
